7 Day Spring Reset: Healthy Spring Break Ideas

Spring Break, that annual rite of passage, is just around the corner. From Myrtle Beach to Mexico, beach communities are quaking with trepidation in anticipation of the onslaught. For those eager to have fun AND stay healthy, there are plenty of awesome spring break activities that can keep this precious time-out from disintegrating into a 7-day booze fest.

Healthy Spring Break Ideas

Miami

For 6 bucks you can rent a bike through the CitiBike system and explore the city. Ride for up to an hour and half and drop the bike off at any empty bike stand.

Cancun

For less than the cost of a margarita, you can visit the El Meco ruins—which are located just off Cancun’s main hotel strip—or any of the Mayan ruins in the area. You’ll get a better workout climbing the steep steps up to the ancient temples than you will on the stair master.

Acapulco

Work those glutes as you hike up to the Chapel of Peace. The steep climb is worth every step as you will end up at one of the best vantage points in Acapulco.

Puerto Rico

Shake your booty in San Juan at the Oceano, a popular lounge that offers moonlit, free dance classes on the beach.

Daytona Beach

While your buddies are losing muscle tone by the pool, you can make your way to Three Brothers Boards and work your entire body on a stand-up paddle board. The dolphins and manatees will keep you company.  

Anywhere:

Take a break from the frenzy and find a yoga class to reclaim your balance literally and figuratively.

Spring Break Health and Wellness Tips

Whether you are planning a no-holds barred Spring Break celebration at some exotic beach location or determined to make the most of a relaxing staycation, here are some health and wellness tips to keep you partying like a pro without derailing the fitness you’ve worked so hard for.

Stay Hydrated

Keep a water bottle handy to stay hydrated, especially if alcohol is on your agenda. The more alcohol you consume, the more water you will need to drink to maintain your body’s proper water balance. Try a glass or bottle of water in between each cocktail, and there’s a better chance when you wake up it will just be morning—not the morning after.

Gym or No Gym. There’s Always a Way to Exercise.

If you’re staying at a hotel with a gym, head over there between activities. Even a quick 30-minute workout will make you feel rejuvenated and keep you from veering too far off your fitness track.

BYOF (Bring Your Own Food)

Those hotel buffets and happy hour snacks can have a direct relationship to your ability to zip your skinny jeans. Rather than diving into the junk food, buy your own healthy foods.  You’ll save money and calories and rejoice at the end of the week when your pants still fit!

Don’t Forget to Eat

While you don’t want to overdo it at the buffet, you also want to be careful not to skip meals. It’s easy to get caught up in the fun and forget to make the time to eat. But, seriously, just because you are on vacation doesn’t mean you should sacrifice your healthy glow. Remember, cocktails are neither a food group nor a meal substitute.   

Safety First

If you’re headed to a Spring Break hot spot, you will be meeting a ton of fun, fellow party seekers. Practice the buddy system with your friends so that you will never be caught alone in a sketchy situation. If you do make the decision to leave your friends at any point, always make sure that someone in your group knows where you are.
