My fitness this week:
One thing I am trying to consciously work on is making sure that my core is strong. As the belly grows, many women tend to walk or stand with a little bit of a swayed back in order to not fall forward from the weight of their belly. This can put a lot of pressure on the lower back causing pain. To avoid this, I have been doing planks every day which strengthen not only the front of the core, but also the back.
I also practice abdominal bracing which can be done in a seated position, meaning I can do it in the car, while I'm watching TV, and even while I'm working! Abdominal bracing is quite simple, and once you learn how to do it you won't be able to stop! It basically is flexing all the muscles in your abs and holding for about 10 seconds. When I teach my clients how to brace their abs, I tell them to imagine the feeling they get when they have a severe cough. I even have them do it a few times with their hand on their stomach so that they can feel the moment their abs tighten. Once you know what feeling you are duplicating, try it without the cough! It takes a little practice, but it's well worth it. Start by holding for 10 seconds, releasing for 5, and then holding for another 10. Do that 3 times and you'll be feeling it!
My beauty this week:
My goal this last week has been to really stay on top of my water consumption and the regularity of skin care routine. To aid in this, I am using my Doctor Dennis Gross cleansing cloths. (They're now 50% off, so grab some before they're gone!) When I find myself in bed too tired to get up and wash off my makeup, I grab my package of cleansing cloths from my nightstand and remove all the dirt and impurities from the day. The cloths have anti-oxidants which help to nourish my skin through the night and do not leave a sticky residue the way normal makeup remover cloths do. They also moisturize my skin, so I don't have to worry about getting out of bed to put another moisturizer on! My skin needs to be exfoliated daily because of my extreme dryness, so the scrubbing of the cloth on my skin feels really great when I can't use my Skin Authority Resurfacing Accelerator. These have saved me from breaking out more than once. I still recommend going through a whole routine of cleansing, applying serum, and applying moisturizer, but in a pinch my Doctor Dennis Gross cleansing cloths do the trick!
How I'm feeling:
Off-balance. As my tummy grows and gets heavier, I have found myself walking differently in order to compensate for my new center of gravity. I'm still battling nausea and fatigue, but my belly is finally starting to look like baby and not fat, so I'm happy!
