Week 17

About Me:
My husband and I struggled to get and keep a pregnancy for years, so when I successfully reached the 12-week mark with this pregnancy I was completely elated - So much so that I wanted to share my pregnancy with the Total Woman community. Each week I want to share some details about my fitness and beauty routines, as well as other things I’m experiencing. Maybe you’re reading this blog post because you’re pregnant right now, or you’re thinking about pregnancy in the future; whatever the reason, I hope that sharing some of my journey will help you in your own journey, even if it is just to make you feel like you’re not alone.  Feel free to comment or ask questions in the section below.
My fitness routine:
Ever since I got into the health and wellness industry six years ago, I always imagined I would be one of those pregnant women that was in the gym every day, didn’t gain an ounce that wasn’t solely attributed to the baby, and had ab muscles right up until the third trimester. In my fantasy, once the baby came, I would hold my little bundle of joy in fit, shapely arms, my defined collar bone peeking out from my shirt. Great fantasy, right? Well, my reality didn’t quite match up to my fantasy. Instead I was greeted with nausea so severe that even walking on the treadmill for 30 minutes left me feeling sick for days and also left me with little desire to do much of anything except to lay horizontally on a couch. I am now 17 weeks pregnant and still throwing up every day. When I was prescribed anti-nausea medication, I had to deal with the side effects of that medication, and then more medication to deal with the side effects of the first medication. My First trimester has definitely had its share of problems.
Needless to say, my fitness routine is not up to par with what it once was. It’s basically been limited to parking in far off spaces at the grocery store and doing kegels in the car. The fitness manager at the Torrance location, Theresa, has done a wonderful job monitoring my health and fitness activity. As my symptoms subside, I look forward to working with one of the amazing personal trainers here at Total Woman!
As far as restrictions go, my midwife has simply advised me to listen to my body. There are many doctors who want their patients to keep their heart rate below a certain level or restrict certain exercises, so make sure to listen to your doctor.
My beauty routine:
I have been blessed with a little girl! This means bows, dresses, and ACNE. My first trimester of pregnancy I broke out so badly, I was having flashbacks to high school. My skin was also so dehydrated from throwing up so often that my lips were constantly chapped and my makeup always looked caked on. Pregnancy Glow? Not so much.
To deal with my new skin issues, I started relying on the Skin Authority skincare, and it has really helped my pregnancy glow to finally shine through. I use the Resurfacing Accelerator at night, and the Vitamin C Serum during the day. This combination has given me back the suppleness in my skin that I had lost. I also recently purchased the Vitamin D Serum, and can't wait to being using it at night!
What has surprised me this week:
What has surprised me this week is how much people want to share advice. I’ve heard everything from, "Oh you're still throwing up? Try ginger," to “You should have stopped feeling nauseas at 12 weeks.” Hearing comments like that makes me realize how different every single woman’s journey is. But more than that, I think it’s comforting to know that it is innate for women to want to help others. It’s what makes our Total Woman Community so unique. While most advice I get isn’t necessarily new or something I haven’t already heard, it still reassuring to know that so many people care about my wellbeing.
