Elizabeth Holmes, Diane Hendricks, Doris Fisher, Jin Sook Chang. What do all of these women have in common? They are on the list of Forbes Top 10 Self-Made Women. Where would you fit in with these women?
Each woman on this Forbes list as well as many others have worked and fought their way to the top. They weren't born with a silver spoon in their mouth nor were they given many of the opportunities you and I may take for granted. They were simply women with a dream and the drive to make it a reality. Have you ever wondered what spurs that drive? We did as well, so in this post we are going to look at the most prevalent qualities every self-made woman has.
Intensity: Have you ever met a self-made woman who wasn't burning to try the next new thing or didn't have at least one great story of going from zero to hero and loving every minute of it? We haven't either. Self-made women have an energy and intensity about them that you just don't see in other women. It's what makes them tick...it's simply who they are.
Awareness of Oneself: Self-made women take each and every life experience, whether good or bad, and use them to their advantage. They have the innate ability to look at themselves objectively in order to become more aware of their strengths and weaknesses. Once they have obtained this awareness, they use it to set attainable goals and define their purpose in this world. A woman with purpose, strength, and intensity is most certainly a force to be reckoned with.
Creative Thinker: Self-made women have a knack for taking the ordinary and making it extraordinary. Where others may see a difficult situation, a self-made woman sees opportunity for growth. Where others say "That's impossible!" a self-made woman says, "Bring it on!" She is full of ingenuity and has a spark that you just don't see in ordinary women.
Forgiving: Self-made women have the ability to look at past experiences, questionable choices, and difficult situations with a loving heart. They are able to forgive themselves and move on to bigger and better things knowing they did the best they could at that particular point in their lives. They can let go of negative thoughts or feelings about themselves and move forward in a space of light, love, and peace.
Inventive: A self-made woman knows how to utilize her resources to yield the greatest benefit. They choose not to make excuses but rather make things happen. They take an obstacle that would stop ordinary women in their tracks and create numerous ways in which to overcome it. They live by the saying, "If plan A doesn't work, there are 25 other letters in the alphabet."
Passionate: Self-made women don't allow anything to stand in the way of them reaching their goals. They are passionate, fervent beings with a fire that burns within them to be the best they possibly can be. Their determination is their driving force behind everything they do. These are the women you want in your corner when you have real goals that need to be met.
Live Outside the Box: Jillian Michaels has a famous saying, "Get comfortable with being uncomfortable." A self-made woman herself, Jillian knows the meaning of hard work and dedication. Self-made women don't allow limitations or norms to keep them from being the best in their fields. These are the women who are willing to step out of their comfort zones and into the place where dreams are made. These are the women who get things done.
Flexible: Self-made women know that you can gather more flies with honey than vinegar. They can walk into a room and read the people in it like a book. Not only that, they can then adjust their vocabulary, mannerisms, and body language to suit the company they are keeping. They understand people and what makes them tick and use this understanding to their advantage. Self-made women check their emotions at the door and stick to the facts when dealing with matters of business. They know how to make people feel important, needed, and worthy of their time.
Driven: Self-made women are internally driven. They have the ability to see an opportunity for what it is and know whether or not it is worth the risk and investment. They don't sit back like the proverbial wallflower waiting for someone to ask them to dance. They take action and make things happen on their own. Self-made women are intelligent and not afraid of taking a calculated risk.
Self-made women are some of the strongest forces to be reckoned with. They are experienced and well-established yet remain balanced and compassionate. These are just a few of the qualities of a self-made woman...how many do you have?
